NHCOA's regional gatherings are two-day events that take place in the areas of the country where its network members are located. The purpose of these gatherings is two-prong: to empower Hispanic older adults by providing them with leadership development tools and information on issues of impact to them and to connect them with local elected officials, providers, and stakeholders to ensure their needs and concerns are voiced in an attentive and receptive environment, and subsequently addressed.
The 2011 Promoting Communities of Success Regional Meetings will bring together providers, community leaders, Hispanic older adults, local elected officials, and other key stakeholders to discuss local issues affecting Hispanic older adults by empowering seniors to advocate for their needs. This year NHCOA will host regional gatherings in:

Day 1: Empowerment and Leadership Development Campaign
NHCOA, with the underwriting of key sponsors, brings together grassroots leaders and community members to become motivated and aware of the issues impacting their lives and provide them with the tools to mobilize and take action by participating in national conversations and advocacy efforts.
Day 2: Open Forums
Armed with the tools acquired from the previous day, Hispanic older adults are brought together again, this time to engage in an open discussion on issues of importance, such as health and economic security. NHCOA also invites local elected officials, providers, and other key players to participate. Two-thirds of the discussion is dedicated to voicing needs and concerns and sharing experiences and comments. The rest of the time is used for the elected officials to provide a legislative update on the issues previously discussed as well address any related questions.
