As a national organization focused on improving the lives of Hispanic older adults, their families, and caregivers, it is critical for NHCOA to sponsor national and grassroots level events that take an informed and accurate pulse of their needs and concerns. To achieve this, NHCOA hosts an annual gathering which convenes stakeholders and experts in aging issues to share the best of their work and experiences in a concerted effort to make life better for our padres and abuelos. NHCOA also hosts regional events targeted to specific communities in different parts of the country to truly grasp the particular and unique issues they face in their everyday lives. This localized, grassroots focus allows NHCOA to effectively weigh in on national aging issues and paint a realistic and relevant picture of the state of Hispanic older adults, their families, and caregivers.
Each year NHCOA hosts a national summit on the premise of 'sharing the best of us' – working together to ensure that the protection and empowerment of Hispanic seniors remains a top national priority. Starting this year, NHCOA's annual gathering will continue to be guided by the same governing principle, but with a new format that hones in on the most pressing issues impacting Hispanic older adults by serving as a catalyst for meaningful action and change.
NHCOA's regional gatherings are two-day events that take place in the areas of the country where its network members are located. The purpose of these gatherings is two-prong: to empower Hispanic older adults by providing them with leadership development tools and information on issues of impact to them and to connect them with local elected officials, providers, and stakeholders to ensure their needs and concerns are voiced in an attentive and receptive environment, and subsequently addressed.
